چکیده

Vocal effort is a physiological magnitude that accounts for the changes in voice production that occur as vocal loading, which is the stress inflicted on the vocal folds when speaking for long periods, increases. It has been quantified in terms of Sound Pressure Level (SPL). In previous research, it has been shown that prolonged vocal effort can lead to vocal fatigue. An experiment was conducted to measure the effect of reverberation time on vocal fatigue, by means of an evaluation of variation in vocal effort over time. Twenty subjects were recorded while reading a text in anechoic, semi-reverberant and reverberant rooms in the presence of babble noise. Withinsubject variation in SPL was measured per task. It was found that SPL tended to increase less over time in the semireverberant environment than in the anechoic or reverberant environments. This finding suggests that subjects experienced less short-term vocal fatigue in the semi-reverberant environment.

[Assessment of vocal intensity in lecturers depending on acoustic properties of lecture rooms].

BACKGROUND Lombard's effect increases the level of vocal intensity in the environment, in which noise occurs. This article presents the results of the author's own study of vocal intensity level and A-weighted sound pressure level of background noise during normal lectures. The aim of the study was to define whether above-mentioned parameters depend on acoustic properties of rooms (classrooms o...

Investigating the performance of machine learning-based methods in classroom reverberation time estimation using neural networks (Research Article)

Classrooms, as one of the most important educational environments, play a major role in the learning and academic progress of students. reverberation time, as one of the most important acoustic parameters inside rooms, has a significant effect on sound quality. The inefficiency of classical formulas such as Sabin, caused this article to examine the use of machine learning methods as an alternat...

A Study on Combined Effects of Reverberation and Increased Vocal Effort on ASR

This study analyzes the individual and combined effect of room reverberation and increased vocal effort on automatic speech recognition. Robustness of several state-of-the-art front-end feature extraction strategies and normalizations to these sources of speech signal variability is evaluated in the context of large and small vocabulary recognition tasks on American English and Czech speech cor...

Evaluation of estimation models for acoustic reverberation time in educational and office environments

Noise pollution is considered as one of the most annoying factors in educational and office environments. In these environments where learning processes and intellectual activities are ongoing, an effective acoustic design is necessary. The aim of this paper is to assess the reverberation time as one of the important indicators in describing the acoustic characteristics of rooms. In this study,...

Effects of reverberation on spatial, prosodic, and vocal-tract size cues to selective attention.

Three experiments explored the resistance to simulated reverberation of various cues for selective attention. Listeners decided which of two simultaneous target words belonged to an attended rather than to a simultaneous unattended sentence. Attended and unattended sentences were spatially separated using interaural time differences (ITDs) of 0, +/-45, +/-91 or +/-181 micros. Experiment 1 used ...
